It was chosen as a New York Times Book Review Editors’ Choice, an Amazon Editor’s Pick for “Best History,” and received an amazing window display (here on the left) at London’s famous Hatchards’ Bookstore, where it was the Featured Book of the Month for April 2021. The Barbizon is available in paperback and audio, and has been translated into Spanish, Italian, and Russian, with translations forthcoming in Korean, Chinese, and Hungarian. In the U.K., it was published by Two Roads, an imprint of Hachette. Paulina writes narrative non-fiction with an emphasis on excavating women’s lives and the spaces they occupied. Her most recent book is The Barbizon, which came out with Simon & Schuster in 2021. in International Studies from the University of Washington, and a Ph.D. in the College of Letters from Wesleyan University, an M.A. Her family left for England, moving to the United States another ten years later. Paulina has a B.A. Paulina Bren is a writer and historian. She was born in Czechoslovakia in the city of Brno, but her life trajectory veered unexpectedly when the Soviet Warsaw Pact army invaded soon after. ![]()
